We are partnering with Cambium Sustainable for our courses in Outdoor Learning & Forest School qualifications.
Nationally recognised as outstanding training courses, with rave reviews, we are bringing these courses to you at the beautiful Ashdown House National Trust Forest (RG17 8RE) on the Berkshire / Oxfordshire / Wiltshire border, 15 mins drive from the M4, accessible by train /bus & bicycle.
Cambium Sustainable are a well respected UK Forest School Trainers Network member, and by partnering with Brightwood Training we provide for you:
- Forest School Association approved quality of content.
- Modular courses which accredit your prior work towards Outdoor Learning & Forest School Qualifications. For you this means value for the training investment of your time and money that you put into each level of qualification.
- Local & centralised on-call support while you are completing your training and portfolio.
- Small courses (16 people max) with two experienced trainers who are Forest School practitioners and not just training deliverers.
- Follow up sessions / consultations in your own settings and help with finding your own settings if you need it. You attend the training days, practical skills, portfolio working days, and and entitled to attend free campfire skill share evenings.
- A supportive learning environment where learners finish their full qualifications, rather than a remote training organisation.
Forest School Level 3 Leaders Qualification Dates
2016: September 7-10th, October 6-8th + portfolio day TBC.
2017: April 26th - 29th, May 18th-20th + portfolio day TBC.
2017: September 6-9th, October 5-7th + portfolio day TBC.
This course is designed for those who would like to set up and run a forest School programmes.
There are five Units of Study at Level 3:
Course requirements
On the Level Three course you will :-
Entry Qualification Required:
Level 2 Qualification in Education, Youth Work, Child care etc. AND established link with a client group and potential Forest School Site. 21 years or over at the start of the course.
OR Level 2 Qualification in Forest School, Countryside, Woodland Management etc. AND at least two years experience with client groups AND an established link with a client group and potential Forest School Site.
We recommend that you hold a valid First Aid certificate.
Course costs – £800.00 per person +vat
Disclosure and Barring Service checking and appropriate First Aid qualification is required for this course.

Funding: You can use your Enhanced Learning Credits for Forest School Level 3.
We are hoping to be eligible for 24+ loans very soon.
Local council funding, lottery groups and local co-operative funding is often available for courses such as Forest School which will benefit the local community.
Level 2 – 3 Top Up course
This course is for those who have successfully completed the Level Two Assist at Forest School course to top up to the Level Three Forest School Practitioner status.

September 7th -10th £400 + VAT
We can arrange Forest School First Aid Training dates in the same location if we have enough interest, alternatively ITC First Aid Training has a list of UK courses which run all year round.
Outdoor Curriculum Coordinator
Outdoor Learning Coordinator is a two day course designed for those who would like to further their OL skills, be a part of sucessfully embedding outdoor learning in their organisation and making it accessible to all.
This course is only available to those that have completed the L2 OL Practitioner Award.
Course content summary:
Background of educational practice of modern Outdoor Learning including a review of research & practice in recent years.
Auditing existing provision and practice, creating procedures and best practice guidelines for making outdoor learning part of a whole school educational strategy
Site / grounds planning and sustainable management
Planning year round programmes of OL
Building on Outdoor Learning Skills
Guidance for cascading new skills to other staff members
Course costs £200 + VAT or £400 + VAT when you sign up to both OLP and OLC courses (discount of £50 given)
Outdoor Learning Practitioner
The Outdoor Learning Practitioner training course has been piloted, reviewed and adapted during 2012 & 13 to make sure it fits the needs of educational professionals and the revised national curriculum. Completion of the course only takes two and a half days ( plus some structured ‘homework’ in between the course days) and it is designed to be as practical, accessible & supportive as possible in helping you to make a success in implementing a programme of Outdoor Learning. Content of the course is summarised below:
Understanding the benefits and risks of using the outdoors as a learning environment, looking at the background and context of modern outdoor learning
Learning how to make an holistic approach to implementing outdoor learning – getting everyone ‘on board’ with your plans.
Planning & delivering seasonal outdoor learning by building specific skills and confidence in a range of areas that can be developed / enhanced in school grounds and in the local environment.
Knowing how to sustainably manage and improve outdoor learning environments, looking at ecological structures in the natural environment, identifying species in our own local natural environments
Looking at the wider context of Learning Outside the Classroom and making plans to utlise your local natural and built environment in curriculum delivery.
